This project explore the effects that economic restrictions have had on human interactions and on people private lifes. The desires and hopes that have grown out of Cubans economic position stand in strong contrast to the tourists independence.
"The Emotional Power of Capital" was made in Habana between 2014 and 2016. The methodology of work was about sharing; thoughts, fairs, wonders, dreams... I decided to use my status of Western woman to analyze how have I been perceiving by the others: sharing to learn - Learning by doing - Doing for share. I selected the concept of "workshop" to exchange points of view and technical aspects of photography with cuban guys, which have, as only option to travel outside of the island, to marry a foreigner. We documented ourselves; a tourist western woman living with cubans.
We want to be honest to make visible the impact that the economic political conditions have on the social behaviours of the population that live under/over them.
The pictures show us a deeply personal view of love relationships taking place under different portents. The result is a documentary of a layered social structure and a reality that is already in the process of disappearing.
If you can't express yourself freely; are you gonna be...? Do you count if you don't have a voice? We believe that a solution for a moral revolution is to give tools to the population with less voice, at least to start.
By looking to the pictures; we wish you to have an interessting trip. We expect and hope you to immerse yourself into the histories; to get a conclusion if you wish. We suggest you to be yourself; thinking freely and breathing consciously. We are able to restructure our outlooks and the society that we hold.
